I don't like the default gray smiley pack that's installed with cutenews.ru very much. I'm going to list some alternatives on this thread.
Simple Smilies with thumbs up and thumbs down:
Delete /data/emoticons/*.*
Replace with these files.
Go in 'System Settings' and erase the list of smilies and put this list:
 | | confused, laughing, mad, sad, shocked, smile, stunned, surprised, tongue, upset, wink, thumbsup, thumbsdown |

A fun animated smiley pack. These are really .png files with smooth transparency but they won't work unless renamed to .gif.. it doesn't seem to create a problem though. They are working on http://www.scottdizzle.com and it's comment system so if you'd like to see them animated, check there.
Delete /data/emoticons/*.*
Replace with the files from this zip.
Delete the list of smilies in 'System Settings' and put this list in whatever order you like:
| | angel, clap, dance, doh, drool, eh, hand, liar, naughty, pray, sh, shifty, sick, silenced, snooty, think, wall, whistle |

These are tranparent but they still won't work on anything darker than light gray.. well they'll work but they won't look nice 
I suggest using these if you have a white or super light gray background.
Anyway, delete /data/emoticons/*.*
Replace with files from this zip.
Go in system settings and changed the list of smilies to this list in any order:
| | baffled, cheese, confused, cool, frown, glee, laugh, mad, mixedup, noexpression, sad, sadder, shifty, shocked, smile, smirk, timid, tongue, whatever, wink |

Oh they are definitely not made by me. Google Images was my friend. I just figured since there were no smiley alternatives.. there needed to be!

Weird, i deleted the emoticons in the emoticon folder. Uploaded the ones from the zip, changed the list in the settings and no image is shown. I chmoded the images 777 but it didnt help. The Alt text is there where the image should be, nut no image it self.

Just before i was getting to bed last night i gave it a look ones more... 
I have a sub folder om my server to test this particular project.
When i connected by ftp i opend the cms folder and deleted all smilies...
But i deleted the smilies from my own cms  That's why nothing happend on the 'Sandy' site.
How dumb can a person be? Guess the reason was it was quit late and should be sleeping that time...
So after i uploaded the smilies in the RIGHT cms... everything was ok after all
oh my god....

I had my girlfriend email me all the smilies that her Yahoo! email account had.. and here they are:
Download the zip and replace the smilies as usual.. here's the list of smilies to use for your System Settings:
| | tongue, kiss, shocked, weird, cool, upset, cry, laugh, ohgosh, sick, wait, dontcare, clown, goofy, uhh, funny, hmm, doh, clap, chicken, rose, alien, notsure, angel, bashful, frown, grin, love, question, sly, smile, smirk, whatever, wink, nerd, zzz |
Put those in any order you like, take some out if it's too many.. whatever.. Also, the zip file includes 'smiley.txt' which has that same list

It sounds like you have a pretty obedient gf.
And by accidence... i can say she's literal pretty...
But she did a good job on sending you those smilies.
Here in Europe we have a community wich is called 'Hyves.nl' They've got many smilies you know. You could check it out as it seems that your addicted to those yellow smiling faces. Ohw... and what about Deviantart

Haha I'm not the first one to think of ripping stuff off! I mean if you use blogger.com you can download and install the yahoo and google blogger theme and completely rip them off even more. At least I didn't go that far!
I didn't know about www.hyves.nl and I never thought to check out deviantart.com smilies, I always just go grab wallpapers from there.
