It´s the binary system.
Have you have ever seen code like: 01101101 10110001 etcetera ?
Well that's binary code, it build up from with only 0's and 1's in a 8 digit pharaphrase. Each digit individualy is called a bit, each string of 8 digits is called a byte.. It's just the way computers work
