I just fixed 2 small bugs in the statistics part in main.mdu:
- using txtSQL the size of the story is taken into count now
- using MySQL there were wrong sizes when other scripts use the same database as CuteNews.RU

I installed cutenews, but you are making great stuff!
What is the long term view of cutenews.ru?
Will there be support?

The help files are only an excerpt of the readme file. All you need to know is in the readme.html file.

my first post and my first attempt to use this fine program.
When I use the txt version install it goes blank on step 4.
The database version install worked fine.

Dear Fi-DD,
cutenews.ru it is much better than the original version, but me not understandably one important point.
In the original version is present automatic or manual archiving of a file news.txt (actually store.MYD in cutenews.ru) is used, that promotes creation of monthly archives (separate files) and DB has no big volume. In cutenews.ru is used store.MYD (DB).
This file too will monthly share on other archive files, or it will increase (with addition of new news) unlimited?
Seems that if this file will reach 5-10mb it will be more difficult for server, and also speed to be slowed down.

There is no archiving in CuteNews.RU.
But the flat file database in CuteNews.RU is much more powerfull than the flat files of the original database. So 5-10 MB shouldn't be a problem.
If you plan to have a lot of articles (over 20 or 30 MB - I don't know) I suggest you use the MySQL version. With MySQL you can have thousands of articles with hundreds of MB.

It certainly very sad news to me, as for MySQL (on some hostings) is present also restrictions on volume. In the original version (cutephp) this function is thought well over, as occurs monthly (or manual) archiving and a file news.txt always has small volume. I cannot understand, why cutenews.ru have not inherited this most important factor. This most important for a serious script based on TXTMYSQL. Very much it is pleasant to me that in cutephp I can select news (EDIT NEWS in ADMIN area) and send to archive. The file is created (for sample) in a folder ../news/data/archive/1152814411.news.arch and file.. /news/data/news.txt decreases. It is possible for making it in cutenews.ru?

Yes, It seems that serviceability of a script with a small file store. MYD and the set of small files in archive is more preferable than with MySQL in volume of 20...30 megabytes.
I have calculated and have found out that within 14...15 months the file store. MYD will have 10 megabytes (in my case). It will be annoying to delete old news, if for me hosting storage is not a problem (I have 25GB). Even more sadly - I shall be compelled to use original version (cutephp).

I'm not compelled to use the old cutenews at all. The only thing I can find that the original cutenews does better is randomizing posts. I either can't get it to work on this script or I can only do it once per page.. sometimes I liked having multiple areas with random headlines.

I seem to be having a lot of problems installing and running the scripts, this I will work around. How ever one thing that was noticed is that the smilies are using swear words, which is a real problem when a site is looking for search engine placement.
How do I change the words used for smilies as fuckbuddies is not a word I want on a site thats accessed by kids.

rename the smilies.
so its fuckbuddy.gif i assume, change it to buddy.gif.
After you changed all the file names you can edit the smilies in Sys configuration
