How about a timetable.
Where man specify a date when the contribution can not be displayed or moved?
Those contributions should of course be sorted according to date?

Could probably do something neat like this with a gallery and really good use of {date} in the templates.
Could probably also make use of 'search' to help visitor to display specific events. If not search, hard-coded URL's or a drop-down to change the way the results are listed. Using the new XField sorting may help out a lot here.
Did you have an example of a calendar or could you doodle an example so we can better see in your brain how you'd like it
